As one of West Africa's most diverse countries, Cameroon is a melting pot of languages, with large areas for English and French speakers and hundreds of local languages spoken across the country. With a somewhat stable infrastructure and warm, friendly people, Cameroon is a wonderful place to teach in Africa. Most English teaching jobs in Cameroon are on a volunteer basis. Most schools are underfunded but have many eager, motivated students hoping to learn English from native-speaking teachers. Licensed teachers teach at international schools, which typically follow the American, British, or French curriculum. Applicants must hold a government-issued teaching license and have undergone a teaching practicum to teach at an international school in Cameroon. Previous full-time experience, however, is not always necessary. Although many teaching jobs in Cameroon are unpaid volunteer positions, they may offer stipends or housing.
