Latest Program Reviews

I wasn't sure what exactly to expect when coming on this program, but it was nothing like I thought it would be. In some ways, it was kind of disappointing, but in many other ways it exceeded my expectations. I learned many many things about the culture, the language, and more about myself. I had a lot of time to reflect on the way I want to live my life with my future family. I was also able to create a great relationship with my host family. However, I did find the program to become a bit exhausting after a while, because time spent with the kid could sometimes feel more forced instead of natural. There were a lot of expectations and I felt a lot of pressure to say and do certain things while playing and teaching the kid. Needless to say, the kid ended up feeling like my little brother. It was fun to spend time with him and the family, we got along really well. I think this is because I have already traveled before, so there was little culture shock for me, and the family has also had experience traveling and having other au pairs, so they also did not have a lot of culture shock. For families who don't know much about other cultures, and for au pairs who don't know how to adapt to a new culture, I think many problems could arise. The city I went it was absolutely beautiful; I will miss it! I did feel a little lonely at times though because there weren't many opportunities to make and spend time with friends or other people, and I couldn't change my schedule at all.
