Jobs in Oman

Job seekers often overlook working in Oman, opting instead for one of their flashier neighbors. That’s likely to change as Oman offers well-paid work opportunities in a striking landscape. Oman’s relative cultural tolerance, as well as emphasis on tradition, gives foreigners a chance to experience the Arab world without the glittering wealth flaunted next door in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Plus, there’s a large Western expat population in Oman, especially in Muscat, so modern conveniences are easy to find. Do jobs abroad in Oman have you saying “Oh-man!” yet?

A Guide to Jobs Abroad in Oman

Locations

The Sultanate of Oman is comprised of a tropical desert environment with some regional variations. Here are the best places to work in Oman this year.

Muscat. Compared to other Middle Eastern capitals, Muscat offers a completely different vibe. There are a few high rise buildings here, and the result is an attractive, laid-back port city, situated on the Gulf of Oman, surrounded by both deserts and mountains. Muscat has a fairly sizeable expat population, and single women will likely feel comfortable here, even navigating the city alone.

Nizwa. Approximately 72,000 people call Nizwa home, which is located two hours from Muscat, in northern Oman. The ancient city is known for its impressive 17th-century Nizwa Fort, which is flanked by the traditional souk. There you can find crafts, jewelry, and spices.

Salalah. With a population of 200,000, Salalah is Oman’s second largest city, and their economy is largely dependent on tourism. Salalah’s location in the southern province of Oman enjoys the tropical effects of monsoon season which transforms the dry region into a lush and tropical oasis during July and August. The monsoon season attracts visitors from across the Middle East who come to witness the many waterfalls.
